Collaborate with UW on new Maple School garden and curriculum!

Updated: Aug 27, 2020

Over the summer, Maple was one of 3 Seattle elementary schools chosen to kick off an exciting outdoor learning project in partnership with The University of Washington College of Education, Tilth Alliance and Seattle Public Schools. Funded by a $2.9 million grant from the National Science Foundation, the project will build outdoor learning gardens and draw upon the local communities and green spaces while developing a robust curriculum for K-3 educators to engage students in complex ecological reasoning and decision-making.

Curriculum development will begin soon in hopes to roll out units for the spring. Design summits are scheduled for October 25th and October 30th for all parties to gather and provide input on the curriculum. We would love to have strong parent representation from Maple so that we can ensure the design of this program fits the needs of our students.

If interested in this collaboration, please contact Andy Allen (anallen1@seattleschools.org), STEM teacher, to find out more details.
